FY 2026-27 old and new regime, HRA, NPS, arrears and TDS balance, for Central and State Government staff across India. Version 1.0.0. Your data stays in your browser.
This calculator is made for people who draw a salary or pension from Government service: Central and State Government employees, teachers, police, railway and defence civilian staff, and public sector employees. Enter the monthly pay, DA, HRA, arrears and bonus, add your deductions, and see the old and new regime side by side for FY 2026-27 with rebate, surcharge and cess. It works out the HRA exemption, the NPS employer deduction and the balance tax to recover in the months left, and downloads a PDF statement. Drawing and disbursing officers can save every employee and print one abstract for the office. Nothing is sent to a server.

Health and education cess is 4% on tax and surcharge. Tax is rounded to the nearest ten rupees. These rules are summarised on the Slabs and rules tab, which also shows what has been cross-checked.
An employee earning Rs 1,08,000 a month, with leave surrender of Rs 1,00,000, bonus of Rs 10,000 and arrears of Rs 3,00,000, has salary income of Rs 17,06,000. After the Rs 75,000 standard deduction, taxable income in the new regime is Rs 16,31,000. Tax on this is Rs 1,26,200, cess is Rs 5,048, and the total is Rs 1,31,250 after rounding to the nearest ten rupees. If Rs 60,000 has been deducted, the balance of about Rs 71,250 can be spread over the months left.

FY 2026-27 (assessment year 2027-28), which is Tax Year 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act, 2025. FY 2025-26 is also available. Both use the same slabs.
Nil up to Rs 4 lakh, 5% from 4 to 8 lakh, 10% from 8 to 12 lakh, 15% from 12 to 16 lakh, 20% from 16 to 20 lakh, 25% from 20 to 24 lakh and 30% above 24 lakh. Salaried people get a Rs 75,000 standard deduction, and income up to Rs 12 lakh pays no tax after the rebate, with marginal relief just above it.
Yes. Both are calculated side by side from the same entries, the lower tax is marked, and the calculator tells you how much more in deductions the old regime would need to win.
Over the months in which you paid rent, it is the lowest of the HRA received, 50% (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad) or 40% of basic plus DA, and rent paid less 10% of basic plus DA. It applies in the old regime only.
Yes, under section 80CCD(2), in both regimes. For Central and State Government employees the limit is 14% of basic plus DA. Please confirm the limit for your employer category.
Yes. Enter the arrears in the calculator, then open the Form 10E tab, list each earlier year with its arrears and your taxable income for that year, and it prepares Table A, the relief amount and a PDF working sheet. You can send the relief straight back to the calculator.
Enter the TDS deducted in each month already processed. For the months left empty, the calculator spreads the balance tax evenly and shows the monthly amount.
Yes. Save each employee in your browser, then open the abstract to get one table of salary, tax, tax paid and balance for the whole office, as CSV or PDF.
It is the statement a drawing and disbursing officer collects from each employee at the start of the year, showing salary month by month, deductions, tax on total income, tax already deducted and the monthly TDS still to be recovered. The calculator prints it in the usual government layout.
Yes. The Statement and forms tab produces Form 16 Part B (Annexure), Form 12BB and the anticipatory statement as PDFs filled from your entries. They are working documents; the signature and employer details must be completed by the person responsible for deduction of tax.
It depends on deductions. With a Rs 75,000 standard deduction and no tax up to Rs 12 lakh of income, the new regime is often lower for people with few deductions. The old regime can win when HRA, 80C, NPS 80CCD(1B), mediclaim and home loan interest are large. The calculator shows both and the break-even point.
Under the new regime for FY 2026-27, income up to Rs 12 lakh pays no tax after the section 87A rebate of up to Rs 60,000, and a salaried person with the Rs 75,000 standard deduction can have gross salary up to about Rs 12.75 lakh. Marginal relief applies just above the limit. The rebate does not apply to special-rate income.
Arrears are taxed in the year you receive them. If they relate to earlier years you can claim relief under section 89(1) by filing Form 10E. Use the Form 10E tab to work out the relief and carry it back to the calculator.
Yes. Income tax rules are national, so the same slabs and deductions apply to all States. Professional tax, which differs by State, can be entered in the deductions section for the old regime.
